Gas poisoning

CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

Carbon monoxide poisoning is an absolute indication for treatment in an oxygen chamber. Since the transfer of oxygen through haemoglobin is blocked by CO poisoning, oxygenation of tissues, especially of the brain, can only be provided by plasma oxygen through hyperbaric oxygen therapy. In the event of rapid intervention, the patient recovers from unconsciousness already during treatment in the chamber. It is necessary for the patient to undergo HBO even if they are conscious after poisoning, because this is the only way to prevent later neurological damage.

DECOMPRESSION SICKNESS OF DIVERS

With the rapid emergence of the diver to the surface, during decompression, the formation of microbubbles of nitrogen in the bloodstream occurs. These can cause blockage of microcirculation. The extent of blockage of blood vessels and subsequent organ damage is depending on the amount of bubbles.

ACCORDING TO CLINICAL SIGNS, TREATMENT CONSISTS IN PLACING THE PATIENT IN A HYPERBARIC CHAMBER AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE WITH VERY SLOW DECOMPRESSION ACCORDING TO SPECIAL TABLES.
