Recently, studies have been appearing on the treatment of these neurodegenerative diseases in the oxygen chamber. Studies report positive results from this treatment.
Based on experience from hyperbaric centres in Florida and California, we also treat patients with these diagnoses at our workplaces. The treatment is long-term and the results are encouraging.
NEUROLOGY AND HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY
Neurological disorders and diseases currently affect roughly 1 billion people of all ages and are associated with roughly 6.8 million patient deaths worldwide each year. This staggering statistic illustrates the profound global impact of neurological diseases and disorders. New evidence suggests that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) helped patients regain neurological activity and function. In the event of neurological developmental and neurodegenerative disorders and also neurological injuries, HBO provides the brain with increased oxygen levels and thereby helps with the regeneration and repair of brain tissue, intensifies the growth of neuronal stem cells and improves cognitive function.

STUDY: IMPROVING BRAIN FUNCTION WITH HBO
In 2013, the results of a prospective, randomized, cross-controlled trial were published looking at HBO’s effectiveness in improving brain function and quality of life for patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) suffering from chronic neurocognitive impairment. In total, the study included and evaluated 56 patients with mTBI, 1-5 years after injury with prolonged post-concussion syndrome. Patients in the treatment group were evaluated at baseline and following 40 administrations of HBO therapy. The patients in the crossover group were evaluated three times: at the start of the trial, after a two-month follow-up period without HBO administration, and after two months with 40 HBO submissions.
There was significant improvement in cognitive function and quality of life in both arms of the study after HBO administration, however, no major improvement was detected during the control period. Based on tomographic images, HBO showed significant induction of improved brain function, neuroplasticity, and increased brain activity.
